NEW ENGLAND
TOUR
SEPTEMBER 25 TO
OCTOBER 18, 2009 |
I started the tour off
Saturday, September 26 with the Westchester Area Basketmakers Guild.
Judy Flanders, left, was my host. The event was at the
Croton Point Nature Center on the Hudson. The students made antler
baskets creating their own design. Several of the students also made
random weave baskets. |
Sunday September 26 the Penn
Jersey Guild had a workshop in Manahawkin, NJ. The Penn Jersey girls had
a great time making the Herb Basket. The next day my host Theresa DeCaro
took me on a side trip to Long Island and the Jersey shore. The Barnegat
lighthouse was one of several lighthouses I encountered on my trip. |
The next stop was to Jean
Weinrich's in Cape Cod. She hosted me for a few days of rest and
relaxation. One day we took the ferry to the bus tour on Martha's
Vineyard. This is Gay Head and Edgartown lighthouses. |
October 3-4 Jenn Rhodes
hosted me at Basket Weaving Supplies in Shirley, MA. Saturday's class
chose the Williamsburg Market with Sunday doing the Oriole Basket. |
Then on to Joe and Kate
Conroy's to visit in Exeter, RI. We relaxed and Kate and I took a trip
to Narragansett and Point Judith for a wonderful sea food dinner at the
Mariner Grille in Narragansett. |
New England put on a show.
The colors were bright and beautiful. |
The next stop was at Ann
Harrow's in Wells River, VT. We took a look at her new horse then off to
the FryburgFair for a couple of days in Fryburg, Maine |
Jean Bove of Murry Hill
Basktery in Hill, NH hosted the 36 rib basket and oriole basket classes
on October 10-11. |
I spent a couple of more days
with Ann. This was the view from my bedroom window on Monday morning
October 12. On October 13 we woke up to the first snow. What a
difference a day makes !!!! |
October 14 the Finger Lakes
Guild from Rochester, NY had a class with students doing either the 36
rib or an antler basket. |
Joan Belles was my host and
we visited Corning, NY and the Corning Glass Company. She lives on
Seneca Lake and of course we had to visit some of the wonderful wineries
in the area. |
Gail Hatz and I spent an
afternoon at the Artisan Works in Rochester. It is a large old factory
that is filled with all types of art and is a fun place to go.
October 18 I had to say
good-bye to New England and a great time and head back home.

IOWA ROAD TRIP
July
6-10,2009
Judy Jackson and I stopped
in Amana to visit Joanna Schanz at the Broom and Basket Shop where we
sat in Iowa's Largest Walnut Rocking Chair. At the Philip Dickel Basket
Museum Gallery in the shop we enjoyed this years exhibit of " Basketry
Teachers and Their Classes". |
This is just a few of the display cases in the exhibit. If you go to
Amana be sure to check out the Broom and Basket Shop and Schanz's
Furniture Store. Their hand made furniture is beautiful. |
We spent a day with Marlys Sowers and wove the pot belly basket. Jeff
demonstrated his wood working and Abby the new puppy entertained us all
day. |
Judy spent a day with her daughter in Denver and I went to Monticello to
weave and enjoy the day with Jo Campbell-Ansler. We ended our trip by
all meeting in Glena, Ill. and shopping, visiting the wineries and
eating. |
